The short version

We try to be careful with your data — the same way we try to be careful with everything else we make. We keep only what we need to run the apps well, we don’t sell it, and we don’t use it to follow you around the internet for advertising. For EyesLikeMe, what your camera sees is processed on your device and never uploaded or sent anywhere by us. Today the app works entirely on your device, so your color-vision results stay with you, and we don’t collect them. If we ever add a feature that saves your results, we’ll tell you first and ask your permission. The rest of this page explains the details in plain language: what we collect, why, how long we keep it, who helps us run the apps, and the choices and rights you have.

Who we are

Lucubra Studio is the publishing name of Lucubra LLC, a limited liability company formed in the State of Washington, USA. When this policy says “we,” “us,” or “the studio,” we mean Lucubra LLC — the company responsible for our apps and for the data described here. We’re the data controller for that data. This policy covers EyesLikeMe, White Noise HD, and this website (lucubrastudio.com). You can reach us about anything in this policy at support@lucubrastudio.com, or by mail at Lucubra LLC, 522 W Riverside Ave, Ste N, Spokane, WA 99201-0581, USA.

What we collect, and why

To run our apps and keep them working, we collect a limited amount of usage and performance data — for example, which features get used, whether something crashed, and basic technical details like the device model and the app version. We use this to fix bugs, understand what’s useful, and make the apps better. We don’t need your name, email, or other contact details to use the apps. This usage data is tied to a device identifier rather than to a named account — it tells us “this device did this,” not “this person did this.” We don’t build advertising profiles from it, and we don’t sell it. For EyesLikeMe, there’s one more kind of data — your color-vision results — which is more sensitive, so we handle it separately and only with your explicit permission (see below). We don’t collect payment information: the apps are free, and anything paid would go through your app store’s checkout, so we wouldn’t see or store your payment details.

This website

This site (lucubrastudio.com) uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to see aggregate traffic — things like page views and which sites link to us. It’s privacy-first and cookieless: it sets no cookies, uses no client-side storage, and doesn’t fingerprint you by IP address, device, or browser. It collects no personal data and doesn’t track you across other websites, so there’s nothing to opt out of. This section is about the website; the usage data we collect inside the apps is described above and below.

EyesLikeMe specifics

We never upload what your camera sees

EyesLikeMe uses your camera to show you how color appears through your color vision. Those camera frames are processed on your device, in real time, and only while you’re actively using that feature. They’re never uploaded, never recorded, and never sent anywhere by us. You can turn off camera access at any time in your device settings, though the camera features won’t work without it.

Your color-vision results stay with you

EyesLikeMe is a screening self-assessment — it gives you a non-diagnostic estimate of how you see color; it’s not a medical diagnosis. Because that estimate is personal and health-related, we treat it with care: the screening runs on your device, your result is shown to you there, and we don’t collect it or store it on our servers. You decide what to do with it.

EyesLikeMe can also simulate how the world looks through different kinds of color vision. What it shows is driven by your inputs — a result you got, or a type you pick to explore — so you can understand a way of seeing, or show it to someone else. If you choose to share a profile, the profile travels inside the link itself — you decide whether to create it and who to send it to, and we don’t upload, host, or keep a copy on our servers. A shared profile is pseudonymous (not tied to your name or an account). Because there’s no copy on our end, there’s nothing stored for us to delete — and, like anything you send, a link you’ve already shared can be opened by anyone who has it, so share it only with people you trust.

Seeing “without your glasses”

EyesLikeMe can also simulate the world without your glasses — a “blur” based on a spherical prescription (in dioptres) you can set for a profile with a slider. Like a color-vision result, this is personal, health-related information, so we keep it on your device — we don’t collect it or store it on our servers.

You choose what to share. If you share a photo or link that includes the “without glasses” look, you can decide — per profile, each time, and you can turn it off — whether to include the prescription so the other person can reproduce the same view. If you include it, a rounded version travels inside the share link. We round it (to the quarter-dioptre a real prescription uses) so the link never carries a precise medical value as it passes through your Messages, other apps’ link previews, and the sites that host the page. You can always share the look without the prescription, or not share at all — it’s your call.

How long we keep data

We keep data only as long as we need it, then we remove it.

  • Color-vision results and the “without glasses” prescription: the app works on your device, so today we don’t collect or store them — they stay with you. A profile you choose to share isn’t stored on our servers either: it travels inside the share link itself, so there’s nothing kept on our end. If we ever offer a feature that saves results, we’ll describe how long we keep them, and ask first.
  • Usage and performance data: we keep it only as long as we need it to run, secure, and improve the apps, and in no case longer than 13 months. After that we delete it, or keep only totals and averages that can no longer identify a device. You can ask us to delete it sooner.
  • Website analytics: aggregate only, with no personal data kept about you.

If the law requires us to keep something longer, we will — and only for as long as it’s required.

Who helps us run the apps

We’re a small operation, so we rely on a few trusted service providers — for example, companies that handle hosting and storage, crash and performance diagnostics, and the website analytics described above. The app stores you download from (such as Apple’s App Store) are also part of how the apps reach you. These providers process data only to provide their service to us, under confidentiality and data-protection terms; they aren’t permitted to use your data for their own purposes, and we don’t allow them to sell it. We don’t share your data with anyone for advertising.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell your data. We don’t sell or rent your personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We haven’t in the past 12 months, and we have no plans to.
  • We don’t run third-party ad tracking. We don’t use third-party advertising trackers to follow you across other apps and websites.
  • We don’t record your camera. EyesLikeMe’s camera frames stay on your device.
  • We don’t use your color-vision results to profile you. They’re used only to power the feature you asked for.

How we protect your data

We work carefully to keep your data safe — with measures like encryption in transit and at rest, access controls that limit who and what can reach your data, on-device processing for camera frames, and — if we ever build a feature that stores your results for you — a restricted, access-controlled store, used only with your permission. No system is ever perfectly secure, and we can’t promise absolute security — but we take protecting your data seriously, and we design the apps to collect as little as possible. If a breach ever affects your personal data in a way that creates a real risk to you, we’ll notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.

Your choices and rights

You have meaningful control over your data. Depending on where you live, you may have additional legal rights — and we aim to honor reasonable requests wherever you are. You can ask us to:

  • Know or access a summary of the data associated with your use of the apps.
  • Delete your saved data.
  • Correct data that’s wrong.
  • Withdraw permission for any feature that saves results — where such a feature exists — which deletes what was saved.
  • Object to or restrict certain uses of your data.
  • Receive certain data in a portable form, where that right applies.
  • Adjust permissions — for example, turn off camera access in your device settings (some features won’t work without it).

To make a request, email support@lucubrastudio.com. We’ll respond as quickly as we reasonably can, and within the timeframes the law requires — generally within about a month, and sooner where we can. We may need to confirm that a request relates to your own data before we act on it. We won’t treat you differently for exercising these rights.

For users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom

The legal basis we rely on is our legitimate interest in running, fixing, securing, and improving the apps (for usage and performance data), balanced against your privacy. We don’t store color-vision results, or the “without glasses” prescription, on our servers. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because we’re based in the United States, your data is processed there (see “International data transfers”).

For California residents

We collect these categories of personal information: identifiers (a device identifier) and internet or other network activity (usage, performance, and crash information, and the app version). Camera input, your color-vision results, and the “without glasses” prescription are processed on your device and aren’t collected by us; a profile you choose to share travels inside the link itself and isn’t stored on our servers. We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so we don’t offer a “Do Not Sell or Share” link — there’s nothing to opt out of. California residents have the rights to know, delete, correct, and to non-discrimination for exercising them; to exercise them, email support@lucubrastudio.com.

International data transfers

We operate from the United States, so when you use our apps your data is processed in the United States. If you’re in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with data-transfer rules, this means your data is transferred outside your home region. Where that transfer needs a legal safeguard, we rely on the protections offered by our service providers — including Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, frameworks such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Children

Our apps are made for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect sensitive data such as color-vision results from them. If you believe a child has given us information they shouldn’t have, contact us at support@lucubrastudio.com and we’ll remove it.

Changes to this policy

As our apps grow and change, we’ll update this policy and change the date above. If we make a significant change to how we handle your data, we’ll take reasonable steps to let you know — for example, a notice in the app or on this site.
